Breast Implants' Locations

Aesthetic Surgery Options

Breast augmentation is a procedure that inserts implants into a woman's breast to enlarge and enhance the patient's breast profile. There are two types of implants available to patients: silicone and saline. One of the advantages of a saline implant is the event that the implant ruptures the fluid is absorbed by the body, unlike in silicone implants. Silicone implants, however, are smoother and feel and look more real. Women who have smaller breasts, and therefore less tissue to cover the implants, prefer silicone implants because they are less likely to ripple under a patient's skin. The implants may be placed in one of three areas in the breast, behind the pectoral muscle, within the pectoral muscle or in front of the pectoral muscle. If considering breast implants, it is best to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine which type of implant is best for you.
