Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
Liposuction is a surgical procedure during which a surgeon makes several incisions, inserts a long narrow tube called a cannula, breaks apart the fat and then vacuums it out of the body. This procedure, which is usually performed on an outpatient basis, requires 45 minutes to two hours to complete and two to three days of recovery time. Liposuction is considered a permanent plastic surgery procedure as the removed fat cells do not regenerate. Complications of this surgery, though rare, are possible and include swelling, discomfort and infection at the incision site. An alternative to liposuction is lipodissolve, a non-surgical procedure during which a surgeon injects a special "chemical cocktail" into the fat. The solution works with the body's own physiology to dissolve and remove fat from the treated area. Lipodissolve is not FDA-approved and a patient should consult a board-certified plastic surgeon before making decisions regarding this procedure.
