Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
Liposuction is usually performed as an outpatient procedure. It is a minimally invasive treatment used to decrease the amount of fat in a patient's body and to enhance the body profile. During this procedure, incisions are made in the skin and excess fat is removed from fatty areas. Liposuction surgery generally lasts from 45 minutes to two hours, and it is considered a permanent plastic surgery procedure. The recovery time from liposuction is typically two to three days. The best candidates for liposuction are individuals who are at a normal weight but have localized fatty areas. This procedure was not designed as a weight loss surgery. However, liposuction can be used as a post-bariatric cosmetic treatment, and it can also be combined with other procedures, such as tummy tuck or breast augmentation. If considering liposuction, it is best to consult board-certified plastic surgeons as they have the most training and experience in their field.
